About Us
Nature and Purpose of the Authority
The ACT Long Service Leave Authority currently administers portable long service leave schemes
for the following industries under ACT Government legislation:
- Construction Industry,
- Cleaning Industry,
- Community Sector Industry, and
- Security Industry
The schemes allows workers to move from employer to employer (and even service as a self-employed worker is accrued)
without losing credit for time worked (service) in the covered industry.
Role of the Authority
The Authority has a governing board, and staff who are responsible for:
- identifying and registering employers and employees,
- ensuring employers provide quarterly returns and levy payments,
- maintaining records of workers service and employers contributions/payments to the scheme,
- identifying the liabilities of the scheme through annual and triennial actuarial reports,
- investing surplus funds to cover administration costs and current and future liabilities,
- assessing workers’ claims and making payments as required, and
- reporting to the ACT Government and Legislative Assembly in accordance with legislative requirements.
