October is National Safe Work Month, and ACT Leave staff have been getting in the spirit by taking the opportunity to refresh our workplace health and safety knowledge.
Embracing this year’s theme of safety is everybody’s business, staff have been exploring a different aspect of workplace health and safety each week, from health and safety fundamentals, to risk management, to mental health at work.
When we think about staying safe at work, physical safety usually comes to mind. However, mental wellbeing is equally important, which is why ACT Leave has focussed on it this year.
To mark World Mental Health Day, staff gathered for a Mental Health Morning Tea. It was a welcome break during a busy period for the organisation, providing a chance to engage in mindfulness colouring and meaningful conversations about mental health.
While it’s great to have a day dedicated to mental wellbeing, caring for our mental health at work is important year-round. We will continue to check in with each other on key days like RUOK Day, come together to celebrate birthdays and achievements, and build meaningful connections over lunch, puzzles or other group activities. These actions won’t be limited to October—they will benefit us all in the months ahead, fostering a workplace where mental health remains a daily priority.
WorkSafe ACT offer some great resources for mental health at work.
