Last week ACT Leave exhibited at the Canberra Careers Xpo, where we spoke with future workers—many who plan to choose careers in our covered industries, and provided them and their parents with information about our portable long service leave schemes.

The Xpo provides valuable career guidance to over 9,500 young job seekers in the ACT. With the expansion of the Services Industry Scheme next year, it was a great opportunity to let attendees know that from 1 July 2026, workers in accommodation and food services and hairdressing and beauty services will be eligible for portable long service leave. This information is particularly relevant for young people, as so many enter the workforce through a job in service industries and it’s important they understand their leave entitlements.

This year’s event was the second that ACT Leave has attended. Our friendly team love being out in the Canberra community to talk about portable long service leave, and to connect with other organisations exhibiting at these events. We cannot wait to do it again next year, but until then, make sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to keep up to date and learn where we’ll be exhibiting next!
